Picture it: me, driving to my weekly yoga class last week.
Every drive over to the gym I teach at, I contemplate what intention or insight I want to bring to my students. I decided with five minutes until my arrival that I wanted to talk about strength and how you can use it to help others.
Then, almost as if it was a sign from the Universe, I listened to a story on the radio (which I normally never do anymore – I was driving my partner’s car and I didn’t connect the Bluetooth to my phone) where an individual shared that they had to get THREE surgeries to save their life from a blood clot because they carried and placed over 15,000lbs of tiling at their job site and afterwards went into a depression due to a morphine addiction.
WOOF.
“GOOD LORD! I wish that person could have given themselves rest and asked for help,” said me, as if the radio could hear me back.
The theme I taught in the class that night was “Give yourself what you need,” and I wish that so badly for you all today.
This is your permission slip, here and now, to allow yourself the time, opportunity, or grace to give yourself whatever you need today. Maybe that’s an hour to enjoy a nice bath and go through your full skincare routine or maybe that’s getting your partner to watch the kids/furry kids so you can go for a run or to a spin class.
And you wanna know what happened in that yoga class I taught?
When I gave people that permission slip, they listened.Some students followed along with me but a good chunk of them gave themselves more opportunities for Balasana (Child’s Pose) or just did their own thing entirely! Heck, it was even cooler when they started to experiment and try variations I hadn’t seen before so we ended up learning from one another.
